The Associate Administrator, Professional Practice, Education & Care Coordination provides strategic and operational leadership for ambulatory nursing professional practice across USC Care. This executive nursing leader is responsible for advancing nursing excellence through professional practice governance, clinical staff education, competency management, Magnet readiness, professional development, care coordination, nursing triage operations and programs. The Associate Administrator partners closely with physician, operational, quality, and nursing leaders to ensure standardized, evidence-based nursing practice across all ambulatory settings. This role promotes a culture of clinical excellence, professional growth, innovation, and patient-centered care while supporting organizational goals related to quality, safety, access, experience, workforce engagement, and regulatory readiness.Departmental Specific Summary
Essential Duties
- Professional Practice Leadership • Leads the development, implementation, and oversight of the ambulatory professional practice model. • Establishes system-wide nursing standards, clinical practice guidelines, and evidence-based workflows. • Chairs and supports nursing governance councils and professional practice committees. • Ensures alignment of nursing practice with organizational priorities, regulatory requirements, and national professional standards. • Oversees nursing policy development, review, and standardization across all ambulatory practices. • Promotes evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and nursing innovation initiatives.
- Magnet and Nursing Excellence • Leads ambulatory nursing's Magnet journey, readiness activities, and professional practice initiatives. • Develops infrastructure to support Magnet standards, shared governance, professional development, nurse engagement, and outcomes measurement. • Collaborates with organizational Magnet leaders to align ambulatory efforts with system strategies. • Oversees recognition initiatives including DAISY Awards, BEE Awards, and other nursing excellence programs. • Promotes nursing certification, scholarly activity, research, and publication opportunities.
- Education and Professional Development • Develops and executes a comprehensive ambulatory nursing education strategy. • Conducts annual educational needs assessments and develops system-wide learning plans. • Oversees onboarding, orientation, clinical competencies, annual validation, and continuing education programs. • Creates leadership development programs for nurse managers, nurse leaders, and emerging nurse leaders. • Promotes specialty certification and career advancement pathways. • Ensures education aligns with quality, safety, accreditation, regulatory, and operational priorities.
- Care Coordination and Nurse Triage • Provides oversight for ambulatory care coordination programs. • Collaborates on the development of standardized care coordination frameworks and best practices. • Ensures effective transitions of care and multidisciplinary coordination across the continuum. • Partners with physicians, advanced practice providers, social services, quality, and care teams to improve patient outcomes. • Promotes models that enhance access, reduce fragmentation, and improve patient experience. • Provides oversight of centralized nursing triage operations. • Ensures evidence-based triage protocols and clinical decision support tools are maintained and standardized. • Monitors triage quality, patient safety, service levels, productivity, and patient experience metrics. • Oversees staffing models, workforce planning, competency validation, and performance standards for triage personnel. • Collaborates with operational leaders to optimize access, reduce unnecessary utilization, and support value-based care initiatives. • Leads strategic planning and program growth for centralized care coordination, triage, and 3CI services. • Evaluates opportunities for technology-enabled care coordination, artificial intelligence, workflow automation, and virtual nursing support.

Required Qualifications:
- Req Bachelor's Degree Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Req Master's degree Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Education, or related discipline.
- Req 7-10 years Progressive nursing leadership experience.
- Req 5 years Director-level or above leadership experience.
- Req Experience leading ambulatory, care coordination, professional practice, education, quality, or clinical operations programs.
- Req Demonstrated experience with Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Req Experience developing competency programs, education systems, professional governance structures, and clinical standardization initiatives.
- Req Experience with Magnet principles, shared governance, accreditation readiness, and nursing professional development.
- Req Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Req Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
- Req Leading/ guidance skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref Doctorate
- Pref Ambulatory oncology or infusion services leadership experience.
- Pref Magnet designation or Magnet readiness experience.
- Pref Experience with care management, triage operations, population health, and value-based care programs.
- Pref Experience leading enterprise-wide or multi-site nursing initiatives.
- Pref Familiarity with competency tracking systems, learning management platforms, and workforce development programs.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing)
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
- Req Specialty Certification Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) or Nurse Executive, Advanced-Board Certified (NEA-BC) required within six months of hire/transfer.

The organization encompasses 17 clinical departments, with approximately 1,500 physicians and 2,000 staff delivering care across more than 80 locations from Kern County to Orange County and into Las Vegas. The annual base salary range for this position is $164,403.00 - $271,265.00.
