Description
Under the general direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer for the Office of Maintenance Engineering, the incumbent performs a variety of typical engineering duties. These duties include the delivery of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) packages for roadway, bridges and culvert projects funded from a variety of sources, reviewing scoping documents and plan sets for accuracy and completeness, and developing specialized plans and mapping as needed by the field. The incumbent will perform various transportation engineering tasks understanding and applying Caltrans standards, manuals, guidelines, policies, directives and computer software applications. Travel is required. Frequent trips to the field for roadway inspection and project review are necessary. Possession of a valid California drivers license is required.PARF# 03-6-0121 / JC- 492802
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located at 703 B Street, Marysville, Yuba County.
Mutiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
The majority of the work will be in the office delivering contract documents for Major Maintenance projects. Incumbent may be required to sit for long periods of time using a keyboard and video display terminal. While working in the office setting, the employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light.
Some field work will be required. While in the field, the employee may be exposed to dirt, dust, loud noises, traffic uneven surfaces, plants and a variety of sometime extreme weather conditions and climates that occur in California. While responding to emergency or storm damage events, the employee may be subjected to extended hours and night work.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
The Rotation Program is mandatory 24 month to 33 months rotation assignment for all permanent, full-time Transportation Engineer (Civil) employees that have completed their probationary period hired by Caltrans Districts after June 22, 2018, or an earlier date as determined by the Districts. The purpose of Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is to provide opportunities for employees and Caltrans to benefit by participating in a standardized process that systematically engages newly hired engineers. Participants will develop well-rounded project delivery knowledge, skills and abilities by rotating through diverse project delivery functional units. The rotation program includes mandatory core assignments in Design and Construction units, as well as a mandatory elective assignment. Each rotation assignment is typically between 6 to 12 months and will be based on workload needs and employee's goals. Assignments may involve long term travel and can be located throughout the state.
In addition, to the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program, an incumbent may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function when there are temporary or peak staffing needs in those areas.
