Description
Meta is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Imaging Experience Architecture (iXA) team. As part of the iXA team, you will have the unique opportunity to interact with the best-in-class architects, scientists, and engineers working to define the future of display. At Meta, our goal is to build products that provide optimal content reproduction for each device. Content fidelity and consistency is critical to the success of Meta devices that feature displays. To this end, we must architect pipelines that ensure that color rendering appears consistent from device to device, regardless of the capabilities of the display or camera and viewing conditions. As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be experienced in the use and implementation of visual metrics, including reference and no-reference versions. The position is focused on creating and applying novel metrics to specialized problems related to Meta business cases for novel display modes including virtual, augmented and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR). Special focus is given to perceptual modeling, and subjective measurement and validation of different aspects of vision and display, such as stereo, color, high dynamic range, etc.Postdoctoral Researcher, Perceptual Graphics (PhD) Responsibilities:
- Study and understand vision science literature, and use in-depth subject-matter knowledge to model key aspects of human vision (e.g. stereo, color, contrast and luminance, etc.)
- Generate models pertaining to these aspects of vision, including specific adaptations for AR/VR/MR use cases
- Perform subjective data collection to extend the state-of-the-art when necessary, as well as to validate the proposed models
- Contribute to the formulation of a roadmap for generating metrics and evaluation protocols for problems associated with Meta products
- Contribute to solutions for optimizing AR/VR/MR rendering using objective and subjective techniques
- Consider power-efficient techniques subject to platform HW constraints
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in computer science, vision science, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
- Experience with image and video quality evaluation
- Experience designing and performing psychophysical experiments
- Understanding of perception, including some topics like contrast, luminance, color, stereo, etc
- Experience using Matlab, Python, or similar programming languages
- Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with objective and subjective image quality evaluation metrics
- Experience using standard lab equipment for camera/display measurement and testing
- Familiarity with spatial and temporal perception
- Familiarity with stereoscopic visual modeling
- Familiarity with AR and VR systems
- Familiarity with CIE, ISO and related standards for color
- Understanding of the graphics rendering pipeline
- Demonstrated software engineering experience
- Knowledge of optics, signal processing, mathematical modeling and/or simulation expertise with respect to visual perception and/or systems design
- Demonstrated software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions or PhD papers
- Proven track record of achieving significant scientific results as demonstrated by publications in high-impact journals or conferences (e.g. SIGGRAPH, CVPR, NeurIPS, etc.)
- 1+ year of industry experience designing and building image quality evaluation systems for practical applications
