With cutting-edge technology, a legacy of excellence, and a collaborative culture that empowers talent, we're leading the charge in electric power systems and sustainable aviation. Now, we're looking for a proven mechanical engineering expert to help us soar even higher.
As a Mechanical Advisory Engineer, you will be the bearings expert within our Power Generation Engineering team, advising on both rolling element and journal bearings for our industry-leading Integrated Drive Generators (IDG) and Variable Frequency Generators (VFG). You'll serve as the technical authority for bearing technologies across manufacturing, field service, and next-gen product development.
But this is more than just a technical position, it's a strategic one. You'll be a key voice in defining engineering standards and guiding a team of innovative engineers who rely on your experience and insight to push the boundaries of aerospace power generation.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical support for generator bearing design, analysis, and testing for both new and legacy products, including: bearing sizing and arrangement selection; B10 life calculations and reliability analysis; squeeze film damping and rotor dynamic behavior; and lubrication system integration and performance.
- Support product bearing failure investigations and ensure root causes are accurately diagnosed and corrective actions implemented
- Interface with management, suppliers, customers, and product line engineers, communicating technical findings and recommendations
- Collaborate with internal manufacturing sites and external suppliers to resolve production challenges and improve bearing system performance
- Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and technical guidance for the entire department
- Contribute to cross-functional design reviews, testing protocols, and qualification activities
- Act as a technical mentor, supporting team knowledge growth and capability building
Qualifications You Must Have
- Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with high-speed rolling element bearings in aerospace applications
- Proficiency in tools such as D39 (Collins' HS Jones bearing design) and/or ADORE software
- Experience supporting aerospace mechanical systems across the full product life cycle, including design, production, and in-service support
- Proven history of working with bearing suppliers, such as Barden, Timken, SKF, NHBB, or similar industry leaders
- Extensive experience in rotating machinery or mechanical systems within aerospace or similar high-performance industries
- Strong foundation in mechanical analysis, reliability, failure investigation, and supplier collaboration
